Nagy Balazs lute-backed gurdy for sale

Postby givinupongurdy » Wed Oct 07, 2009 1:12 pm

Hello. I have lute-backed hurdy gurdy made by Hungarian luthier Nagy Balazs in 1999. I bought it with the help of Catherine Keenan in Toronto in 2001. Since then, despite her kind help and a few 'getting started' lessons, while I have enjoyed annoying the neighbours from time to time I have never got to grips with the instrument. So the time has come to sell it . It was attended to last year by luthier Chris Allen in Merthyr Tydfil and given a clean bill of health. It has 6 strings (2 chanterelles, trompette, fly, and 2 drones).

I live in Bristol.

Here is a photo of the instrument - I can send more.

It comes with its original hard-shell case, a strap, some cotton. I also have two books, 'Hurdy-Gurdy Method' by Doreen Muskett and 'The Hurdy-Gurdy' by Philippe Destrem & Volker Heidemann. These can be sold with the gurdy or separately if someone is interested.

Hi, I would be interested in the book 'The Hurdy-Gurdy' by Philippe Destrem & Volker Heidemann. Also how much are you selling the HG for?

I resized your pic to make it easier to look at:

Hi Scott,

Thanks for reducing the photo. I wanted to do that but couldn't figure out how.

How does 15 pounds sound for the book? It's new, I've barely looked at it alas.

As for the gurdy, I've been told it's worth about 1,200 so I'd like to achieve something in that region but am reasonably open to offers. Again, I'm happy to send more photos.

Cheers,

Katie

Hi there

Wow... £15 for 'The Hurdy Gurdy' - there's an offer no-one could refuse! I wish I had got there first!

Good luck selling the gurdy!

Thanks,
Barnaby

Thanks. I wanted the gurdy to go to a good home, where someone will actually play it. I'm hoping this forum will be better for that than ebay.

Hi,

What tuning is this gurdy? G/C or D/G or something else?

Hi Cecilia,

I'm pretty sure its G/C but it's been such a long time...how does one tell the difference?
